The homeowner discovered Pilates in 2014 to help with recovery after a surgery. She fell in love with the
full body strength-building workout. When the Covid pandemic closed gyms in 2020, she missed her Pilates workout and looked into purchasing equipment for her own home.
One discussion lead to another, and the family decided to move ahead with construction of a backyard outbuilding they’d been contemplating – a multi-purpose space that would be used as half-storage/workshop and half-exercise/Pilates studio. As the project progressed, the structure’s focus began to change — the shed portion became smaller, and the studio portion became bigger.
The studio space is large enough to accommodate activities such as yoga, weight training, mat exercise and meditation. A full bathroom with a luxury walk-in shower was added. Though the workshop area is smaller than originally planned, there is still plenty of room for garden tools, lawn equipment and supplies.
Skipping the drive time to the gym allows the owner to maximize her time in the studio, giving her the opportunity to fully escape, relax and prioritize her health.
