Built in 1966, this rambler-style home was one of many designed to offer convenient single-level living. In 2023, its floor plan no longer felt functional. Rooms were closed off, dark and dated. The kitchen lacked the finishes and amenities the family desired. The owners wanted to update and modernize their home, with creative space planning their number-one priority.
Removing the peninsula and low-hanging cabinets opened the kitchen. Older, bulky appliances were replaced. The space was lightened with fresh white and natural wood accents. Upper and lower cabinets are two shades of light, airy blue with cool gray undertones. The muted colors and Mid-Century aesthetic feel natural to the home.
The rest of the main level was updated with new flooring and lighting. Rather than widening the opening between the living room and dining room, the opening was kept as is so that wall space in the kitchen could be used for more cabinets and the new buffet.
“Your team was great to work with, and we look forward to future projects with Plekkenpol,” said the owners.
