Beginning April 22, 2010, federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet of paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Plekkenpol Builders, Inc. has fulfilled the requirements of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TCSA) Section 402, and has received certification to conduct lead-based paint renovation, repair and painting activities pursuant to 40 CFR Part 745.89. Federal law also requires that individuals receive certain information before renovating more than six square feet of painted surfaces in a room for interior projects or more than twenty square feet of painted surfaces for exterior projects or window replacement or demolition in housing, child care facilities and schools built before 1978. All occupants of pre-1978 built buildings must be provided with the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Renovate Right, Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers and Schools” brochure, informing homeowner of the potential risk of the lead hazard exposure from renovation activity to be performed in their dwelling unit.
